Your Career Deserves More Than a Cubicle Farm

You're reading this because you're good at what you do — and you suspect you could be doing it somewhere that actually values precision, transparency, and craft over politics and asset gathering. Since 2010, we've built a team of six exceptional professionals who manage real capital across equities, options, futures, and FX — and we're selectively looking for people who want to join that kind of environment.

Why People Stay Here for Years, Not Months

We've never lost a senior team member to a competitor. That's not because we pay the most — though we're competitive. It's because every person here trades real capital, makes real decisions, and sees real results every single day. No bureaucracy. No committees. No PowerPoint presentations about what we could do if someone would just approve the budget. Our founding philosophy is simple: the best people do their best work when you get out of their way.

We do the work. And we do it exceptionally well. The team is small by design — six people, fewer than 60 client relationships, and an obsessive focus on craft that you won't find inside a 200-person wealth management firm. Every trader here has direct exposure to our discretionary strategies — from the Structured Momentum Methodology in equities to multi-leg options architectures and systematic algorithmic models. If that sounds like a step down from institutional, ask Derek about his experience.

"When I joined, I assumed a small firm would feel like a step down from institutional. It wasn't. It was a step up in every way that actually matters — autonomy, impact, and the quality of the people sitting next to you." — Derek Okafor, Senior Portfolio Trader

Real Capital, Day One

No six-month simulation period. No paper trading. Every member of this team manages live positions with real client capital. You'll feel the weight of that responsibility — and you'll rise to it because we've vetted you thoroughly before you ever sit down at a terminal.

Radical Transparency

Everyone sees the P&L. Everyone sees the risk dashboards. There are no information silos and no politics about who gets access to what. Our 12.4% net annualized return since 2010 was built by a team that shares information freely, debates ideas fiercely, and commits fully once a decision is made.

Craft Over Scale

We deliberately cap our client relationships under 60. That's not a limitation — it's a strategic choice. Fewer clients means deeper knowledge of each mandate, faster decision-making, and the ability to tailor every strategy to the individual rather than shoehorning people into model portfolios.

Ownership Mentality

Performance-based compensation means your outcomes are directly tied to the quality of your work. Senior team members participate in firm profitability. When the desk has a great quarter, you feel it. When the market tests us, we face it together — with the discipline and risk frameworks we've built over 16 years.

Open Positions

We hire infrequently and intentionally. Every role below represents a genuine need on the team — not a speculative headcount request. If you see something that fits, we want to hear from you.

Trading & Portfolio Management

Junior Equity Trader

Vancouver, BC — On-site

Execute and manage equity positions under the supervision of senior traders including Derek Okafor. • Maintain detailed trade journals with entry thesis, risk parameters, and post-trade review

Derivatives Analyst

Vancouver, BC — On-site

Support the options desk with strategy analysis, Greek calculations, and position monitoring. You'll work directly with Jonas Eriksson on multi-leg structures — iron condors, vertical spreads, calendar spreads, and more — as part of our Options Income Strategy and hedging mandates. If options pricing theory excites you and you understand why gamma risk matters more than delta exposure in certain market regimes, keep reading.

Requirements

  • Strong quantitative background — M.Sc. in finance, mathematics, or engineering preferred
  • Deep understanding of options pricing theory (Black-Scholes, binomial models, volatility surfaces)
  • Experience with options analytics platforms (OptionVue, Bloomberg OVML, or equivalent)
  • Programming skills in Python preferred for modeling and rapid prototyping
  • Familiarity with portfolio-level Greek management (delta, gamma, theta, vega)
  • Experience with volatility surface construction and implied volatility analysis a strong plus

What You'll Do

  • Model and analyze options strategies for client income and hedging mandates
  • Monitor portfolio Greeks in real-time and flag exposure breaches
  • Backtest new options structures using historical volatility and price data
  • Prepare client-facing strategy proposals with clear risk/reward visualization
  • Support the development of KPI dashboards for options sleeve performance
  • Research and propose new structures as market conditions evolve — we expect intellectual curiosity, not just execution

Compensation & Benefits

  • Competitive base salary + annual performance bonus
  • Full benefits package including health, dental, and vision
  • Professional development support — conference attendance and certifications
  • Direct collaboration with one of the most experienced options strategists in Western Canada
To apply: Send your resume and a sample options analysis (a real trade you've modeled, not a textbook exercise) to contact@ibkrinvestments.com with the subject line "Derivatives Analyst Application."
Quantitative Research

Quantitative Developer

Vancouver, BC — On-site

Build, test, and deploy systematic trading strategies alongside Priya Chandrasekaran. Python, backtesting, walk-forward optimization, Monte Carlo simulation — this is your daily toolkit. Our Algorithmic & Systematic Trading sleeve manages real capital with strategies that go from hypothesis to production. If you've ever wished your code moved actual money instead of generating PDF reports, this is that job.

Requirements

  • M.Sc. or higher in a quantitative field — math, statistics, physics, computer science, or financial engineering
  • Proficiency in Python (pandas, numpy, scipy, matplotlib at minimum)
  • Experience with backtesting frameworks (Zipline, Backtrader, or custom-built)
  • Understanding of statistical methods, time-series analysis, and machine learning fundamentals
  • Familiarity with financial time series data and market microstructure
  • Ability to distinguish between a strategy that backtests well and one that will actually work in production — we care about robustness, not overfitting

What You'll Do

  • Design and implement algorithmic trading strategies from hypothesis through deployment
  • Perform walk-forward optimization and rigorous out-of-sample validation
  • Build Monte Carlo stress testing frameworks with 10,000+ iteration simulations
  • Deploy strategies on institutional execution platforms with real-time monitoring
  • Contribute to lessons learned documentation using PRINCE2-informed project methodology
  • Collaborate with the trading desk on signal integration, execution timing, and slippage analysis

Compensation & Benefits

  • Highly competitive base salary + strategy performance participation
  • Comprehensive benefits including health, dental, vision, and mental health support
  • Annual research conference budget
  • Access to institutional-grade data, compute resources, and execution infrastructure
To apply: Send your resume, GitHub profile, and a brief description of a strategy you've built (what worked, what didn't, and what you'd do differently) to contact@ibkrinvestments.com with the subject line "Quant Developer Application."

Data Engineer

Vancouver, BC / Remote Considered

Build and maintain the data infrastructure that feeds our trading and analytics systems. Market data pipelines, real-time dashboards, performance reporting, and the client portal backend — the plumbing that makes everything else possible. This is the only role we'll consider remote candidates for, and even then, quarterly on-site time in Vancouver is expected.

Requirements

  • 3+ years data engineering experience with production systems
  • SQL and Python proficiency — you should be comfortable writing both all day
  • Experience with real-time data streaming architectures (Kafka, Redis, or similar)
  • Cloud infrastructure knowledge — AWS preferred, but GCP or Azure experience translates
  • Financial data experience a strong plus — market data feeds, tick data, OHLCV
  • You care about data quality the way traders care about P&L — obsessively

What You'll Do

  • Maintain and expand market data feeds and storage infrastructure across all asset classes we trade
  • Build real-time KPI dashboards for trading desk and client portal
  • Develop performance attribution and benchmarking systems for client reporting
  • Ensure data quality and integrity for both backtesting and live trading environments
  • Collaborate with the quant team on research data pipeline optimization
  • Manage database infrastructure supporting our 60+ client mandate portfolios

Compensation & Benefits

  • Competitive salary with remote flexibility available for this role
  • Full benefits package including health, dental, and vision
  • Annual professional development budget
  • Quarterly travel to Vancouver office covered by the firm
To apply: Send your resume and a brief description of the most complex data pipeline you've built to contact@ibkrinvestments.com with the subject line "Data Engineer Application."
Client Services & Operations

Client Strategy Associate

Vancouver, BC — On-site

Work with Sienna Marchetti, our Head of Client Strategy, to produce client reports, manage communications, and support the onboarding process for new mandates. You'll interface with every part of the firm — from the trading desk to compliance — translating complex strategies into clear, elegant prose that sophisticated clients expect. If you can explain a multi-leg options structure in language a CEO would appreciate, this role was designed for you.

Requirements

  • 2+ years in financial services — wealth management, capital markets, or institutional sales and trading
  • Strong writing and communication skills — you'll be producing investment research reports and market analysis briefs for our research publications
  • Understanding of investment performance reporting, attribution, and risk metrics
  • CFP or CFA progress preferred, but not required if your experience speaks for itself
  • Genuine interest in trading and capital markets — this isn't an admin role
  • Meticulous attention to detail — our clients notice when a decimal point is wrong

What You'll Do

  • Prepare monthly and quarterly client performance reports with full attribution analysis
  • Support onboarding including discovery documentation and Investment Policy Statement preparation
  • Coordinate with the trading desk on client-specific requests, cash flow needs, and tax-timing considerations
  • Manage client portal content, offering memoranda, and pitch books for institutional mandates
  • Assist in preparing prospectuses and third-party due diligence packages on request
  • Contribute to market commentary for client communications and public research content

Compensation & Benefits

  • Competitive base salary + annual performance bonus
  • Full benefits including health, dental, and vision
  • Exam and certification fee reimbursement
  • Direct exposure to portfolio management, trading, and client strategy at a level most associates don't see for five years
To apply: Send your resume and a writing sample (market commentary, client report, or investment analysis — anything that shows how you communicate complexity) to contact@ibkrinvestments.com with the subject line "Client Strategy Associate Application."

Compliance Analyst

Vancouver, BC — On-site

Support Amara Chen, our Head of Compliance & Risk, in maintaining regulatory compliance, trade surveillance, and audit readiness. We're registered with the BCSC (Registration No. 2010-PMRD-00847) and a member of CIRO (Member ID: CIRO-4192) — keeping that registration spotless is a non-negotiable priority. Detail-obsessed people only — this is the role where precision isn't a nice-to-have, it's the entire job description.

Requirements

  • CPA, CGA, or recognized compliance certification
  • Understanding of Canadian securities regulations — particularly NI 31-103 and CIRO requirements
  • 2+ years in financial compliance, audit, or regulatory operations
  • Experience with trade surveillance systems a strong plus
  • The kind of person who double-checks the double-check — and enjoys it
  • Comfort working in a small-team environment where compliance is embedded in the culture, not siloed in a department

What You'll Do

  • Monitor daily trade activity for compliance violations and regulatory threshold breaches
  • Prepare regulatory filings for BCSC and CIRO as required
  • Maintain internal audit documentation and support annual compliance reviews
  • Assist in building and refining compliance procedures as the firm's asset base grows
  • Manage third-party due diligence requests and documentation
  • Support client onboarding KYC/AML processes and ensure documentation completeness

Compensation & Benefits

  • Competitive salary with full benefits
  • Professional certification support and exam fee reimbursement
